What Technologies Are Used In Airless Bottle?

What is airless bottle?

It also called vacuum bottle. The contents of the cosmetic airless pump bottles can be completely isolated from the air, so as to avoid the oxidation and deterioration of the product due to contact with the air and the breeding of bacteria, and to upgrade the product grade with its high-tech concept. The prevailing airless bottle on the market is composed of a cylindrical ellipsoid container with a piston placed at the bottom. For example, silver aluminum airless bottle in the picture below.

Classification and working principle of airless bottle

Taking airless cosmetic packaging as an example, the selection of airless bottles basically includes five elements: compatibility of products, integrity of sealing, integrity of barrier, appearance appreciation and physical properties in circulation. The integrity of the seal (the air tightness of the package) is particularly important, because most of the active ingredients in cosmetics are highly volatile compounds, and many natural ingredients can easily discolored and deteriorate once exposed to air.

Premium brands choose airless packaging for more than just aesthetics. Many premium brands of skin care products are formulated so well that they have specific requirements for airless packaging, so there need to be optimally protected.

The airless bottle body needs to be evacuated, the liquid distribution is uniform, and the internal space is reduced with the reduction of the material body, which isolates the entry of outside air, and the packaging has a beautiful appearance. Consumers can distribute the products in the package at any position and angle, realizing 360° all-round application without dead ends.

1.Piston airless system

This system is the most widely used airless bottle body. A piston is installed inside the bottle body, and a closed space is created between the bottle body and the pressing head. The material is stored in this space. Promote a airless state in the space, and use the external atmospheric pressure to push the piston to move, so as to distribute the discharge body through the liquid outlet hole of the airless pump.

The key point of this technology is the cooperation between the piston and the bottle wall: the cooperation between the piston and the bottle wall should not be too tight or too loose. If it is too tight, the piston cannot move and the liquid cannot be pumped out. If it is too loose, it is easy to cause leakage. Therefore, it is limited by changes in packaging shape, and very regular packaging forms such as round airless bottle or oval airless bottle are common.

2.Hose airless system

The airless hose is based on the evolution of ordinary hoses, replacing the original cover with a airless pump head. By pressing the head of the airless pump, a airless state is generated inside the hose, and the outer wall of the hose is compressed and deformed by atmospheric pressure, so that the discharge body is distributed through the liquid outlet hole of the airless pump. Because the hose wall is made of multi-layer materials and has a certain strength, the suction force and sealing performance of the airless pump head are relatively high.

3.Inner airless system

The system can be described as a combination of the above two, with both a hard exterior and a soft interior. The material of the inner can be PE or aluminum bag, and other process forms. The way of distributing the discharge material is similar to the hose airless system.

Material of airless bottle

There is no specific procedure for the selection of raw materials for the airless pump and bottle body. Mainly in the packaging development stage, materials are selected according to the relevant requirements of customers for products.

At present, the plastic raw materials commonly used in airless bottles are as follows:

● Highly transparent materials (PMMA, AS, MS, MABS, PET, PETG, etc.)

● Semi-transparent material (PP, LDPE, LLDPE, silica gel, etc.)

● Solid color material (ABS, HDPE, rubber, etc.)
